Superior question?

ok as many of u no there are like 3 divisions incollegebasketball , according to how good they are. SO my basketball team is a division two high school team, and many of our coaches say that we have enough talent and good players to take on any school in the state or country for that matter. So he arranged a good division 3 school and prolly the best division one school any where in the country (a chicago team) we beat both teams by a good margin. But my question is why if these two teams were far better than us y did we beat them if they were so good. I related thecollegedivisions to high school basketball. WHen i did this i figured we would smoke the division 3 school but then we beat the d 1 school. Is high school basketball the same strength level ascollegebrackets or is it just by the number of recruitants in a high school that make the level play out?

Superior question?tv on pc

in highschool the schools are classified by how many students attend so that's the pool that each team can be filled by. Smaller schools have less people who can potentially be good but that doesn't stop their top 10 players out of 100 being better then the top 10 out of a school of say 1000. It's not based on talent level but class size.

College takes division one and can recruit players where the best players all go to division one if they can. The lower divisions are smaller in size usually as well but also in talent level because if you are a big time talent you aren't going to have a division 2 or 3 school as your first choice usually.

in highschool you can't recruit players like you can incollegethat's the big difference

Superior question?golf ,nba teams

Take this into consideration...high schoolers have to stay all four years. College players especially basketball dont stay all four years and are already heading to the NBA. SocollegeBB is very young. Butcollegeteams are still better than high school even at the D3collegelevel. I mean I suppose high schoolers could if they had a really good AAU team. But divisions in high school are really close. basically divisions are made based on population but many D1 teams lose to D2 schools in high school. IncollegeD1 team would dominate D2 teams so they are different in that regard.
I think one thing to keep in mind with high school basketball is that great teams gain exposure whether they are small or big. Here in New Jersey, the high school scene the last ten years has been dominated by two lower level Catholic high schools- those who follow the high school game know who they are- primarily because the people in the know realize there is tradition and great players. Coaching means so much more as well in high school than in college.

I like Wisconsin. Sure Ohio State has Oden, but Oden can be stopped. Florida stopped Oden and so can Wisconsin. The have a good big man in Brian Butch that can contain Oden. They also have a legitimate collegiate superstar in Alando Tucker. No one has been able to stop him all year. Look for him to continue to dominate.

Wisonsin 79 Ohio State 70

Who is gonna win?baseball ,nba teams

Ohio State is most likely gonna win. If nothing else just because of Oden. He isn't always such a offensive player, but he dominates people defensively in the paint. Florida didn't stop Oden. Florida didn't do anything in the paint unless Oden was out of the game.
ohio?
i think wisconsin becuz they can stop ohio state and they have a better ranking plus people play better with home court advantage.
This is comming from a Buckeye fan mind you----Wisconsin will win, the Ohio State campus is comming off of an emotional football championship loss. If you have been to Ohio State, every sport is important and the whole campus feels wins and losses. Ohio State's head will not be in it.
I say Ohio State pulls off the mild upset and Oden plays like a beast this game, proving that he'll be the #1 pick in the next NBA draft....Buckeyes 69 - Badgers 65

OHIO.

What is the AAU?

Whenever I read aboutcollegemen's basketball recruits, it always talks about how they played on their AAU team. What exactly is the AAU? And why is it a big deal for recruiting incollegebasketball?

What is the AAU?college

its a league in the fall spring and summer for players who want to get noticed by colleges and/or improve their game while playing at a high level. You have to tryout for a team that is in your area and then after you make it the team goes around to different tournaments and can make nationals if they do well in a regional qualifier(a specific type of tournament where u can qualify for nationals which are in orlando and las vegas during the summer). its a big deal for recruiting cuz it gives colleges another chance to see someone play cuz the high school season is short.

What is the AAU?nba odds ,nba teams

AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) is a state/national east coast team. I have played for two AAU teams, and person I have played with has gone very far in their basketball career... before high school even started. The teams are handpicked by the coach, and every year there is the nationals in Florida. It is an all year round team. I've seen 7 year old AAU teams, through 17.
It's a league to discover new talents and provide a good fun to the teenagers around the USA.

It's a amazing initiative. It's for high school players and others too.

I never played at AAU yet, but I few months I will be there.

I think you should try it if you like to play or something...

Thanks

It is the Amateur Athletic Union. You can read about it in my source.

Was I wrong to tell my college-bound Black grandson to thank all the ignorant racists for his schola

I told him that even though we are hardy stock and well above average IQ in our mostly Irish, English and Native American family the fact that my daughter chose a Black man as her mate contributed greatly to my grandson's physical prowness. I told him that slaves were kidnapped and sold for their strength and coordination and that because of the beginning taboos and laws against inter-racial relationships, his athletic ability was not watered down by a bunch of inbred cousins of massa's. Before you make the assumption that he is all brawn, no brains, he was not only courted and flown all over the country as a Division 1 Basketball recruit, but he made the National Honor Roll Society and had many academic offers as well. So did his father. Full ride, thanks to keeping the best of both races genes. This was in response to a question he asked me some time ago about why most sport stand-outs are Black. That is when I told him the racists were responsible. You will see him on TV soon.

to start black is a color not a person. the word you're looking for his African American.2nd Africans where kidnapped from Africa and sold to Americans and in America the Africans were enslaved like cattle for free labor. The strength and coordination you speak of was b/c the masters wanted more done for nothing, so they started breeding the larger slaves together.Don't get me started on the Native American, I'm 1/2 African American and 1/2 Native American (Sioux,Cherokee tribe), so i have a lot to say lol. i understand what you were trying to tell your Grandson, but i think you should have used different words. yes you are also right about them not accepting the mixing of the races back then and b/c of the your grandson has been blessed, also don't forget the Native American side. I wish your Grandson many blessing and tell him to keep his faith strong ,b/c incollegehe will meet people of any race trying to knock him b/c he is one of the best.

I am sorry, but I don't understand what point you are trying to teach him? I understand racism still exist...which is terrible, but my goodness! What was your exact point? are you 100% white or black or anything? I think you typed this just to get everyone worked up into a frenzy...that is how racists work. I hope you didnt tell your grandson any of the wisdom you put into your question. how about he is a beautiful, intelligent and gifted person...white, black or purple has NOTHING to do with it! Whatever dreams he has for his future will come from his own hard work...and good for him. He sounds wonderful! I am sure you are very proud.
Yes.

You turned aside an opportunity to lift him up with praise by mixing it with a race war.

It is bad enough that the poor thing will not be accepted fully by either side of the "race division".

He does not look fully one "race division" or the other.

You should have just encouraged him in HIS ACCOMPLISHMENT rather than give the credit to someone or something else.

I am sorry to disagree with you, but you did bring the question, and I have honestly answered it.

JESUS bless you,

dave
So what you're saying is that generally blacks are stupid, but your grandson luckily inherited intelligence from the White side of the family. I guess that makes you a racist.
Yes you were wrong to do that, you are teaching him to be a racist.
Why are you so fast to dismiss the likelihood that his scholarship is not the result of racism, but a response to merit. Perhaps you should have considered congratulating him on his accomplishment as a grandson that has made you proud, (hopefully his achievements have made you proud), rather than diminishing his efforts by focusing your time and attention on racial issues rather than on what actually mattered; his success. If other people make the mistake of believing that any worthwhile educational facility would give a full scholarship based on race and not merit then let them live with their own ignorance. It sounds as though you owe your grandson an apology for short changing him, and teaching him to expect that others will do the same.
So, are you telling him that half of his family are ignorant racists?

Guess I don't understand.
yea... my brother's pretty d*mn tough as well and he's 100% white. And my boyfriend's pretty d*mn smart as well and he's 100% black.... well, not that anyone's 100% anything but you know what i mean

B~BaLL PlAyA....... what should i do? Girls help me out here?nba live 2006 ,nba teams

Well first of all, how'd you get his e-mail? It all pretty much depends on that.

But, from what I know, I'd send him a casual e-mail saying you've seen him play and think he's awesome or something (whether or not he really is is irrelevant because compliments are always nice :P)
Follow your heart. What is the worse that can happen. Either he will say yes or no. Just give it a try and see what happens and if you do it, email me and let me know how it turned out!!!
i wouldn't recommend it if you spell like that. remember, this guy is in COLLEGE.
You have to be careful with stuff like that. Nice looks don't make good boyfriend material. It also matters how you got his e-mail. If you got it from him then go ahead and use it but.. most guys don't like stalking. Plus if he knows you liked him so much you looked him up, he might try to take advantage of you because he'll know he has the upper hand. Find a guy you like for who he is and the way he looks and don't spend too much time dreaming about this one.
Just email him the worst that can happen is that he wont email back but you never know maybe he will just take a chance and foloow your heart...why wouln't he want to meet anyone new anyways?

What are my chances of getting into University Of Chicago or Harvard.?

I'm currently 17 years old and my high school GPA is a 4.62. I want to become a General Surgeon and do research on The AIDS virus when I get older. I have been class president for three consecutive years. I have been takingcollegecourses at a communitycollegefor two years now. I am a Certified Nursing Assistant, Phlebotomist, Medical Assistant, and Surgical Technologist. I am on the basketball team and track team. I am also In the National Honors Society. I tutor high school Individuals. I took a practice ACT test and received a 35 composite score. Is there anything else I can do like perhaps put in service hours for the community?

What are my chances of getting into University Of Chicago or Harvard.?basketball

General surgeons don't do AIDS research, but it's nice to hear you care.

You have fantastic experience already. While you may wish to add to it, continuing your work as a CNA, MA or Surgical Tech is certainly sufficient for an admission committee to recognize that you have seen the real world of health care (which is the point of volunteering).

As for applying to a medical school....don't be fooled into thinking that a Harvard medical school is better than a University of Marland medical school. The "Big Name" schools have the big names because of their residency programs and their research. I used to work at Johns Hopkins, which is world renowned...and believe me, their medical students weren't any better or brighter than the other medical students. The best undergrad and medical school to go to is your own state's university. You'll have your best opportunity at being accepted plus you'll pay a state resident's tuition. After you have completed medical school is when you want to attempt to get into the best program for the specialty that interests you. But don't be surprised if the best residency program for your specialty isn't at a world-renowned institute.

Here's a good site to learn about the process of becoming a MD: http://people.howstuffworks.com/becoming...

With all that, dont feel pressured. I think you could practically got to anycollegeyou want. It wont hurt to apply to Harvard even though I know you have a good chance of making it.

Keep up the good work and good luck!
Community service never hurts. You sound like a fine candidate for either.
I agree, that sounds pretty good - past, current and future all accounted for.

Don't forget other great schools too - Stanford, Johns Hopkins, other Ivies, Duke, MIT, and other top state schools such as UC Berkeley, Univeristy of Michigan and well, I am sure you are looking into them all right now...

Good luck!
U Chicago definitely. Harvard--Ivies are always almost impossible to predict. It sounds like there's really nothing else you could do to improve your chances--although what is your SAT score? The ACT's are fine, but colleges on the East Coast often prefer SAT's, plus you'll need SAT II's (at least 2) and 5's on your AP tests (I assume you're taking AP's, otherwise you wouldn't think of going to Harvard or U Chicago.)

On a side note--have you thought of looking at Johns Hopkins? It seems like you would fit right in there considering what you want to do.

Bobby Knight or Dean Smith........what do you think?

I am curious. There is a big deal being made about Bobby Knight passing Dean Smith for the leader in all time wins in Division IAcollegebasketball. An impressive accomplishment to say the very least. But, when I look at the two, I have to ask, is he actually a better coach? Knight has one more national championship and is about to pass him in wins, but had to coach for almost six extra seasons to do it. When I compare the two, Dean Smith was always able to get better players who in turn enjoyed successful careers at the highest level and Smith acheived a majority of those wins in the ACC which is historically the toughest basketball conference in the country. Look at their players. Knight can offer up Isiah Thomas opposed to Dean Smith's Michael Jordan, James Worthy, Brad Dougherty, Sam Perkins and the list goes on.....what do you guys think? Who is better and why?

Bobby Knight or Dean Smith........what do you think?nhl

I think that your last point at how Dean brought in talent that lasted through the nba and all the rest of the people you pointed out and how he had fewer years to accomplish it. Michigan State all the way baby!
Let me list some of the contenders for the basketball national championship. Wisconsin would be one; just look at what they've done so far this season. The Badgers have beat Ohio St., Pittsburgh, and Marquette and are 21-1. They also have a 17 game win streak. And Alando Tucker rocks! Florida and UNC also have a shot to win the national championship; they're both very talented teams.
I would have to know what teams I would have to choose from.
Duke
THE Ohio State University will win the National Championship this year. They have only three loses, coming agianst the top three teams in the country, on the road. If any of those games were played on a neutral court, Ohio State would win. They almost beat Wisconsin, losing by three and they played a very good game against North Carolina, staying in it down the stretch. They did have a very bad loss agaisnt Florida on the road, but this is a young team that is only getting better, and a neutral court would change alot. Once Greg Oden can play with two hands, he will be the most dominant player in the country.
Oregon Ducks
Flrida Gators woo
The Badgers.

It's possible but it will take focused effort in the weight room and the kitchen. It will be especially difficult since you'll probably be doing a lot of skill work (basketball) to bring your game tocollegelevel.

Get to eating!
Weight loss is really quite simple; there are only two things you need do to reach your goals:

1. Restrict daily calories to 1600 calories per day. By increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables you eat, you will be able to keep your intake at this level without feeling hungry or uncomfortable.

2. Exercise for one hour a day, every single day. It can be anything from pilates to just plain walking, but do it. One hour. Every day.

This is a pretty simple recipe for weight loss, but it works. It has worked for me; I have lost 62 pounds this way. It will work for you if you commit to it and stick to it.

Good luck!

2008 Hall of Fame class, who gets in and who doesn't?

NORTH AMERICAN COMMITTEE FINALISTS

VICTOR BUBAS - Contributor (Finalist in 2003), the 1996 recipient of the prestigious John Bunn Lifetime Achievement Award, began a lifelong love affair with basketball in his hometown of Gary, Indiana before attending North Carolina State University where he played for, and coached alongside, Hall of Famer Everett Case. As a player, Bubas helped NC State reach the NCAA Final Four in 1950. Bubas then landed the head coaching position at Duke University in 1959 where he led the Blue Devils to three NCAA Final Fours (1963, 1964, 1966) and four ACC championships (1960, 1963, 1964, 1966). His strong work ethic and vision helped put Duke on the national map in basketball and made Bubas the second winningest coach in the 1960s behind Hall of Famer John Wooden. As the Commissioner of the Sun Belt Conference from 1976-1990, Bubas played a key role in the NCAA's adoption of the both the three-point line and the 45-second shot clock.

ADRIAN DANTLEY - Player (Finalist in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007), a native of Washington, D.C., was one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history. He had a stellar 15-year NBA career with seven different teams (Buffalo Braves, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz, Detroit Pistons, Dallas Maverick and Milwaukee Bucks), the majority of the time spent with the Jazz (1979-86). At all levels, Dantley enjoyed success - as a scholastic All-America player at DeMatha Catholic High School (Md.), as a collegian at Notre Dame (1973-76), as the leading scorer (19.3 ppg) of the gold medal 1976 Olympic team and as a professional where he was Rookie of the Year in 1977. His 23,177 career points still ranks 23rd all-time in the NBA. He scored 2,223 points in three seasons (25.8) at Notre Dame, ranks second in Irish career scoring and was a unanimous First Team All-America list in 1975 and 1976. In all but four seasons as a professional, Dantley averaged 20 points or better, including topping the 30-point mark four straight years (1981-84). The six-time NBA All-Star (1980-82, 1984-86) was named NBA Comeback Player of the Year in 1984, the year he led the league in scoring (30.6).

Davidson has served as Chairman of the NBA Board of Governors, and has been an innovative business leader in the sports industry - building the revolutionary Palace of Auburn Hills, playing an integral role in structuring modern NBA salary cap and free agency standards, and even owning the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning and capturing a Stanley Cup. His Pistons have featured several Hall of Famers, including Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Chuck Daly and Larry Brown.

PATRICK EWING - Player, a two-time Olympic gold medal winner (1984, 1992) and a three-time consensus First Team All-America (1983, 1984, 1985), led Georgetown University to three appearances in the NCAA Final Four and the 1984 national championship earning Most Outstanding Player recognition for his efforts. The 1986 NBA Rookie of the Year landed a spot on 11 NBA All Star rosters including ten in a row from 1998 to 1997. A member of the NBA 50th Anniversary Team, Ewing scored 24,815 points during his 17-year NBA career to go along with 11,607 rebounds. Named Parade Magazine's National High School Player of the Year in 1981, Ewing remains the New York Knicks, all-time leader in points, rebounds, blocked shots, steals and field goals made.

DENNIS JOHNSON - Player (Finalist in 1999, 2003, 2005), was one of basketball's toughest defenders earning nine consecutive NBA All-Defensive team honors during his 14-year pro career, including six spots on the All-Defensive First Team. A member of three NBA championship teams, Johnson led the Seattle Supersonics to the 1979 NBA title and was named Finals Most Valuable Player. He was an unheralded player coming out of high school and college, but left his mark on the NBA as a five-time All Star (1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1985) and one of the game's great clutch performers.

CHRIS MULLIN - Player (Finalist in 2007), a McDonald's High School All-America from Brooklyn, NY, was a five-time NBA All-Star and collegiate standout at St. John's, where he was named Big East Player of the Year an unprecedented three times. A two-time Olympic gold medalist (1984, 1992), Mullin played 16 NBA seasons for Golden State and Indiana, amassing 17,911 points while averaging more than 20 ppg for six consecutive seasons. He is one of only 17 players in NBA history to compile 17,000 points, 3,000 rebounds and 3,000 assists, and was an NBA First Team pick in 1992. He is the all time scoring leader at St. John's (2,440), where he was named the Wooden Award winner and The Sporting News First Team All-America in 1985.

DON NELSON - Coach (Finalist in 2006), is a three-time NBA Coach of the Year (1983, 1985, 1992) and currently ranks second on the all-time wins list in NBA history behind Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens. Nelson is one of the modern game's great innovators with his small-ball offense, his eye for international talent and his ability to reinvent preconceived notions about positions on the basketball court. He led the Golden State Warriors to a 4-2 game upset of the Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the 2007 NBA Playoffs, the first time a #8 seed defeated a #1 seed in a seven-game series. In 1996, Nelson was named to the NBA's Ten Best Coaches of All-Time list and has served his country as the head coach of the 1994 U.S. men's national team that won the gold medal at the World Championships.

HAKEEM OLAJUWON - Player, a native of Lagos, Nigeria, spent the lion's share of his basketball career in Houston, Texas where he led the Houston Rockets to back-to-back NBA championships in 1994 and 1995 and the University of Houston to three consecutive Final Four appearances from 1982 to 1984. A two-time Defensive Player of the Year, Olajuwon still holds the NBA record for blocked shots (3,830) and is the only player to record more than 3,000 blocked shots and 2,000 steals in a career. Olajuwon was also a five-time member of the NBA All-Defensive First Team, a six-time All-NBA First Team performer, and the 1994 NBA MVP. He recorded 26,946 points and 13,748 rebounds in 18 NBA seasons, good for ninth and fourteenth respectively on the all-time NBA leader board.

PAT RILEY - Coach, has experienced success at all levels and in all realms of the game. A player on the 1966 University of Kentucky Final Four team, Riley has left his biggest mark on the game in coaching. Riley is a three-time NBA Coach of the Year and currently ranks third on the all-time wins list in NBA history behind Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens and fellow finalist Don Nelson. His greatest achievements have come in the form of five NBA championships, including four as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers (1982, 1985, 1987, 1988) and a fifth patrolling the sidelines for the Miami Heat in 2005. He is a member of the NBA's Ten Best Coaches of All-Time and is the only coach in history to win NBA Coach of the Year honors with three different teams.

DICK VITALE - Contributor (Finalist in 2004, 2006), a native of Passaic, NJ, has been synonymous withcollegebasketball for more than 20 years as the lead color announcer for ESPN. A successful coach at the high school (East Rutherford), collegiate (University of Detroit) and professional (Detroit Pistons) levels, Vitale began his broadcasting career with ESPN in 1979 and has helped make the network an integral part ofcollegebasketball's popularity. His enthusiastic, upbeat style has resulted in a lexicon of now-familiar phrases as "Get a TO," "Awesome, Baby," and "PTP-er." An author of six books chronicling his love affair with basketball, Vitale was recipient of the Basketball Hall of Fame's Curt Gowdy electronic media award (1988) and won the NABC Cliff Wells Appreciation Award in 2000.

Rush propelled Immaculata, and women's basketball, into the national spotlight when the Mighty Macs appeared on national television in 1975, a first for women's basketball. Rush won 149 games in only seven season and lost only 15, good for a .908 winning percentage. A member of three Brazilian Olympic teams, Ubiratan led his countrymen to the bronze medal at the 1964 Olympic Games. He was a relentless competitor and all-around player who only cared about winning and filling whatever need for any of his teams. i like a woman who knows her basketball

2008 Hall of Fame class, who gets in and who doesn't?nba ,nba teams

What about DON nelson anwser people Report It

no Report It

In the 2008 Class, this is the list of priorities

1. Dennis Rodman - Possibly the greatest rebounder and defensive forward

2. Dennis Johnson - One of the most phenomenal defensive guards

3. Nat "Sweetwater" Clifton - Famous Harlem Globetrotter and NBA legend

I know that during the 1997 Allstar weekend, Patrick Ewing and Hakeem Olajuwon were selected as part of the top 50 ever to play in the league, they are ensured to be in the Naismith Hall of Fame.

But you are right, there are many great contributors to the game of basketball, who are underrated and forgotten by the Hall of Fame commitee. For example, Dennis Rodman, arguably the greatest defensive forward to ever in the NBA, who will not be in the Hall of Fame anytime soon, since David Stern did not like his personality. But his teammates and fans will always respect him.
i'm gonna say that Ewing, Olajuwan, Riles, Dickey V, Chris Mullen, Dennis Johnson, and Johnny red Kerr, get in

but i'm not real sure about Adrian Dantley.
man you know about b-ball and your cute!

The NBA is not fixed...?

I'm sick of everyone saying the NBA is fixed, just because of the gambling incident. I mean come on just watch a game th only time the ref's calls are biased is towards the home teams and toward superstars(Kobe,Lebron,Wade,etc.).I still prefercollegebasketball though, because the players play for the game, not the money.

The NBA is not fixed...?nfl

Exactly.

The NBA is not fixed...?nba power rankings ,nba teams

idk... the world has some screwed up ppl.
fixed to what exteend? now they give the superstars allthe calls but they dont shave points or ne thing
ok, its definitely not WWE, and anybody that says its fixed like that is a fool. But you have to admit, having a referee accused of point shaving and game fixing severely dampens the game. It cannot be good for confidence in the fairness of the outcomes.
you watch thecollegebasketball

not NBA basketball

what do you know???

of course you're gonna think THE NBA IS NOT FIXED
nba is not fixed
It's not fixed, but their is certainly preferential treatment. And apparently sometimes this preferential treatment is in favor of the mafia.
I believe the NBA is fixed all the stars get preferential treatment while others don't there are most likely more refs shaving points on NBA games. Most likley all atlantic division games vs west teams. because those are blowout games that no one would expect there is a hint of foul play
I think its a possibility though I don't want to believe it...basketball on all levels is the hardest sport to officiate. Lots of calls are all in the eye of the one calling them...and not everyone would see it the same way...the speed of the game makes it hard to call the same way at all times...where as baseball and football there are more eyes on the field. And a more open area so things like holding, encroachment, or foul balls and tag out are a little easier to see.

But to think its every official isn't right...its like saying the whole bunch of apples is bad just because one has a worm in it.
I'll bet if the FBI digs deep enough, the evidence will eventually lead them to David Stern.
Thank you , finally someone understands
yes. that was just one rotten egg. Doesn't mean all the refs are criminals.
yea its not fixed yet becuz some referees stiill make stupid calls
you believe Iraq still has weapons of mass destruction too!
There have been a lot a bad calls the last couple of years. I think a rule change should be made so the refs dont have to try to keep the stars in the game. Maybe 2 shots and the ball if a team goes over a certain number of fouls, instead of fouling out players. (except for technicals). People pay tp see great players and its too bad when the players you pay to see have to sit on the bench in foul trouble the whole game
At least somebody is using common sense... While this is a big deal and very devastating for the organization as a whole- some people are not thinking logically about this entire situation. While there may have been things going on, the belief that the entire NBA is fixed seems ludicrous. To criticize this entire organization because of the actions of one person (without having all the evidence first) is unfair. Think about it- people criticized the voting process following the past presidential elections...but we did not say that every election is U.S. history had been fixed. Furthermore, while the refs will have the final say- you can watch the game yourself and determine whether or not its being called fairly. We should wait until all the evidence has been made public before we discredit what this organization and its' players have accomplished.
Yes, thats what i've been hearing to but nobody really knows yet.

No Florida is the first time that this had happened!

Who is gonna win?

The gamecollegebasketball game tomorow of (5) Ohio State vs (3) Wisconsin.

Who is gonna win?nba.com

TNA!!!!
OHIO.

Bill walton vs. christian laettner?

My buddy says that Christian Laettner had a bettercollegecareer than Bill Walton, I say he didn't. According to Smith %26amp; Street, Walton was the 2nd best player incollegebasketball, Lew Alcindor(Kareem) was 1st. I think Laetner was great incollegebut Walton was better.

Bill walton vs. christian laettner?football

Street and Smith are correct.

And OMG, your buddy must never have even seen FILMS of Bill Walton in college, let alone ever seeing him play on TV or in person.

Christian Laettner wouldn't be one of the 100 bestcollegeplayers ever, Bill Walton is probably the 2nd best player in the history ofcollegebasketball (behind Lew Alcindor)... maybe Bill Russell (who averaged over 20 pts and 20 reb /game in hiscollegecareer, and also won 2 titles) could sneak in at #2, but Walton would be no worse than #3.

Some people make these arguments about Laettner and claim that it's harder to win the NCAA tournament now, since so many teams participate...but of course, they fail to understand that UCLA wasn't going to lose to any #16 seed with Walton around!

UCLA won 88 games in a row, with Walton being a huge part of that streak.

Walton played the greatest Finals game ever, going 21 of 22 from the field in 1973. (John Wooden always teased him about that, saying "I thought you were a great player, Bill, until you missed that shot against Memphis State").

Laettner was overrated because ESPN constantly replayed his shot against Kentucky. ESPN wasn't around when Walton played... Walton's a Hall of Famer because of what he did on the court, not because ESPN made his career.

Walton's career W/L record in his 3 years at UCLA was 86-4, with all 4 loses coming in his senior year. He led UCLA to two unbeaten seasons.

Laettner holds a few NCAA tournament records, but that's because he played more games (allowing him to clean up against 16th seeds and 8th seeds in the first two rounds), and Laettner was also eligible to play varsity as a freshman, which Walton and Alcindor were not.

Laettner, like Michael Jordan, has benefited greatly from ESPN's so called "coverage" of sports... ESPN thinks everything has been greater during it's existence than it ever was before.

Bill walton vs. christian laettner?lakers ,nba teams

Yes, I might have been a bit harsh on him due to his meaningless pro career...but he could very well be a top 100collegeplayer. If we worked at it, we might find 100collegeplayers who were better. But it might be tough. A hundred is a lot. But he wasn't anything close to what Walton was. Report It

I think Walton had the better career. Obviously, Walton also had a hell of a supporting cast, but Laettner's team wasn't too bad either.

Incidentally, I think Walton would be a better NBA center than Laettner TODAY. Laettner has been one of the biggest NBA busts ever.
walton had the bettercollegecareer...but laettner had the most memorable moment. the shot he sank against kentucky during the 92' ncaa tourney. arguably the greatest game played incollegeball.
Walton had the better career you still see him carry the lakers and he is not that nice because he is not really playing hard. Walton is sick.
you! are right! your friend owes you money! bill walton was a tremendouscollegeplayer and helped bring ucla those titles! christain laetner? good, but no walton!!

NBA for me, but I still lovecollegeball

NCAA anyday of the week. NBA is a borefest compared tocollegebasketball. College basketball is a team sport...the NBA not so much. You want to see a real basketball game when both teams on the court actually play as a team and give it their all, check out the Duke/UNC game this Wed. night. Report It

D_slim is definitely right.. I could care less about the number of dunks and flashy (usually illegal) moves. The NBA is a joke to me because no one tries until the playoffs. It's almost like watching a harlem globetrotters game. College is far more exciting. Report It

college for sure. the nba players are already paid so though they are definitely talented, they're not playing with the same emotion that thecollegeplayers are playing with. duke over unc by the way this wednesday... watch. Report It

NBA!
deffently nba all the games are way more exitiing
NBA is way better because of the better players and more dunks.
definitely NBA, i hate howcollegefans act when they make those weird noises like they are praying an yelling and stomping their feet on the benches
PBA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I ask that question alot. All because my friends lovecollegemore than NBA. Idk, maybe its cuz they know more college. they say its more action/exciting. But for me, I cant get enough of NBA, I can watch it all day all night and still be up for more. I love the action. But I also know alot, most of there is to know. My friends dont know alot of nba. But for me its deff NBA anyday.
Nba game anyday. College basketball has fouls called every 5 seconds it seems.
It honestly depends on the teams that are playing, because I know that I would much rather watch a fast pacedcollegegame than of the methodical gameplay of the spurs which even for a technicalist like me is dull and uninspiring. The teams like the spurs win games through wars of attrition and that probably has a great influence on their ability to finish games because their gameplay sucks the passion and energy right out of the other team.
i would rather watch a nba game
NBA - unless my Tarheels are playin
NBA because they have better players

Which would win, WNBA or Mens High School?

my friend and i were arguing about this today. I say that an average WNBA team could beat an elite mens high school team. He disagrees. Also, i said that a WNBA allstar team could beat an average menscollegebasketball team, he strongly disagreed.

what do you think about both?

Which would win, WNBA or Mens High School?nba stats

I think it depends. I think an "average" WNBA team could beat SOME Men' high school hoops teams. I am not sure of how well they would fair against elite competition. I mean, I used to and still can defeat my cousin in basketball and she in the WNBA as we speak. :) I more strongly agree with a WNBA All-Star team defeating an average men'scollegeteam. I mean, Sue Bird, Taurasi, Swin Cash etc. are some very good ball players, but I think they would have a lot of work to do against a team like Memphis. The main advantage for men is not really speed, quickness or strength. It is that we play ABOVE the rim, something MOST females cannot come close to competing with.

Which would win, WNBA or Mens High School?nba score ,nba teams

UHH high school men's basketball sucks. WNBA would so kick their ***. Report It

I agree with your friend 100%!!! Something's wrong with you to be saying that. Men are just better athletes then women. I'm not saying that women aren't great atheletes, I just think that an elite High School team can beat them. As for the WNBA All-Stars, it depens on whatcollegeyour talking about. If it's the 2006 National Champion Florida Gators, I'd put my money on the Gator's any day of the week!
ill have to say mens because look at todays players in skool kids like lebron, Olden
WNBA will win.
Elementary kids would win.... No respect, I know.
an elite high school team in my opinion is a team of kids who will go straight to the pros (Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Kuwamie Brown etc.. ) I think those guys could beat the WNBA all star team any day when they were in high school
Thats a good question but I think its gonna have more to do with teh system that the high schoolers are running, you get one of those well coached teams with a couple future NBA cats and yeah I think they should beat the WNBA ballers. Now if they are tryna to just get by on athletic ability I dont know, the experience of teh females may level that playing field. But once you get tocollegeathletes, I think its to much when you have 6-10 6-11 grown men on the court as long as its a halfway decent team I can't see them matching up with them. Unless the men take them lightly, but it would be their game to lose.
you are so true. Just look at this year the all stars on the west team had DT. One of the best womens basketball players in the world and even the worse team in the league could beet a men's team because it seems women play together and the men kinda do there own things
I think an elite mens high school team could beat an WNBA team, but not a mediocre school.
Dont be stupid, WNBA wud def win. I mean theres a 7'2 polish girl for cryin out loud, and they play like men anyway. Lots of them dunk and all of em are really good. I do think acollegeguys team could beat them tho, it would be fun to watch!

I'm older and out of shape. Can I start playing a competitive sport?

I'm 26.5 years old. I'm 6' and am quite overweight at 250lbs (there's not that much muscle there).

I've always wished that I'd taken sports more seriously when I was younger. Played little league for 2 years when I was about 9 and 10, and will every now and then play some softball with some friends. Have been playing basketball with friends since I was young. I love football but have never really played it too much, except for some two hand touch, sporadically through the years. I feel that I can sprint pretty fast for a heavy guy (I like to race my dog from the mailbox).

So those are the details/interests/"qualifications".

What are my chances for playing a team sport on any competitive level? Is it too late? I've still got a few years until I've graduated college, is there still a chance to get on a team?

What are your experiences and/or suggestions?

Thanks!

I'm older and out of shape. Can I start playing a competitive sport?sports tickets

College sports are way too competetive for that these days, but you could certainly play on a city league team. These guys are very serious about their sport. You would need to first have to get a physical, even tough you're still young, and then work out for a few months while keeping a strict diet regimen.

I'm older and out of shape. Can I start playing a competitive sport?concert tickets ,nba teams

One of my bf`s older friends says it is easier to get yourself in shape at his age cuz the body isn`t tring to devope anymore.
please don't consider yourself to be "older"! I am 27 and 6 months pregnant and I can't wait to be in shape again! I just hiked 4 miles yesterday and it just about did me in - 6 months ago I could have hiked all day! I garuntee if you worked off some of that chub by just walking and bike riding for an hour a day and ate healthy food for about a year, you would be in perfect shape to join about any team you wanted to join.

My dad didn't start being healthy till he was 55, and the sport he has always been into was softball... so even unhealthy people can do softball. It is a lot of fun. Maybe you should try that to begin with?

I don't know what to do, i really want to make my basketball team this year!?

I think im good enough, its just my coach won't really give me a chance he has his favorites picked out, it doesn't seem fair, i wanted to try and get a scholarship tocollegeand everything!

sometimes theres nothing u can do, sometimes coaches are like that and just dont give certain people a chance even though there better then every body that makes the team, but if you really want to play then u should try out any way and if u dont m,ake it theres nothing u can do about it excepyt maybe switch to a school where the teams arent made up by the coaches favorites

Can you guys give me some advice on this essay?

Out of my mothers stomach a nine pound baby arrived. I am now successfully in 8th grade and 13 years old. In my family there are five siblings. Three of them are attending college. This makes me the fourth child. The last one is in 7th grade that also goes to Cerro Villa Middle School Two of my favorite hobbies are football and playing basketball. I am an all around guy and have four brothers.

I go to Cerro Villa Middle School and have seven classes. I think it鈥檚 a great school because all of my brothers have been there. There might be some harsh teachers but it is better than a lot of other schools. Since I am in eighth grade, I am looking forward to the graduation and going to high school. Sometimes C.V can be a strict school, but still I will miss this school.

In my Spare time I like to watch basketball and football. My favorite team for basketball is the Los Angeles Lakers, and my favorite player would be Kobe Bryant. For football it would be the Patriots, and I don鈥檛 really have a favorite player. Whenever I have nothing to do you will see me practicing playing basketball and football.. In conclusion I can say that I am athletic guy who loves sports.

Well, for one thing, it is not an essay. It is an autobiography. If you were to have written an essay, you should pick a topic and tell what YOU think about different aspects of the topic.

Like the Lakers. you can say why you like them. You can talk about their fast break style of play or their poor defense. You describe the strengths and weaknesses of some of their players. You can talk about the new players they have this year and how they might make the Lakers better.

An essay has opinions. What you wrote does not. There are facts about you and your family. It's pretty good although you repeat yourself a lot.

I'm sure you can do better. If I was your teacher and you turned that in, you would get a 'C'. So get busy and make that paper a B+ or A-. Good luck.

Looks like a auto-biography you write on a diary more than an essay.

Try writing as a 3rd person for essay purposes.
First of all this section is not essay section .It's basketball. You can only ask questions about basketball

secondly it's not an essay it's an autobiography
wow.. wait, what? I don't even know where to start. Your introduction isn't very good, your tenses are all mixed up and It's repetative.

I'll give you credit for your conclusion. It wasn't that bad.

What type of Vitamins and exercise can give my daughter energy in basketball?

My daughter is 16 years old, and plays highschool basketball.

Last school season her average was 20 plus, a game, her highest was 33 points. She is 6ft 3 inches, and about 250 pds.

She play Center Post, and is a good player. The problem is her Coach gets on her about not running very fast, and complains that she needs to lose weight, and says she runs too slow. My daughter also has fallen arches like me, and is flat foot, and often complains of sore ankles. I've take her to a foot specialist, who recommended physical therapy to build the muscles in her ankles. We have been going there for that.

My daughter Coach is still on her about her running, and my daughter who has had a few colleges looking at her, could get a Basketball Scholarship, but her Coach tells her that the way she runs, that no College is going to take her.

I have been very upset with this guy, me and my husband about what he says to her. MY question is how can we help her to have more energy, and to get in shape?

What type of Vitamins and exercise can give my daughter energy in basketball?nba standings

I'm not sure about anything else, but as she's a woman, I'd make sure she's getting enough iron in her diet, because a lot of women don't. This should help improve her energy levels.

As for vitamins, you don't want a cheap vitamin. I have taken NatureMade multivitamins ever since I heard a doctor recommend them on a talk radio show (along with a number of other brands that I couldn't remember). You can't find them in all stores, but you should look around. Walmart doesn't carry the multivitamin, but for some reason they carry everything else - Calcium, Chromium, Vit. E, fish oil, etc, etc... So I have to stop at Walgreens or a grocery store to get NatureMade multivitamins.

As for running, I've noticed that I do much better at the gym than outside on the streets. On the streets, my legs hurt fairly badly. When I get on a treadmill at the gym, that problem totally goes away. If she is playingcollegebasketball, she should also be lifting weights. I'm not a real big man, but I lift weights six days a week. I work out my upper body on M, W, F, and my lower body on T, Th, Sat. She should start with simple exercises like bench press, curls, leg press, and leg curls. She will catch on my watching other people in the gym. Having the desire is the main key. She has to want it. It sounds like she may end up being a fatty one day if she doesn't work out. So that's one motivation. Plus, there are lots of cute guys at the gym. Whatever it takes for her to want it because if she doesn't want it then she won't go to gym. As for myself, I just asked myself one day if I wanted to be skinny or be strong, and I said I wanted to be strong. Otherwise, I'd be 6'0" and 125 lbs today. Instead, I'm 185 lbs. Just ask her what she wants in life -- to be a loser or a winner. Maybe you could tie her allowance to it! Her coach may or may not being doing a good thing when he tries to motivate her. It sounds to me fairly normal for a coach to be getting on a player in his program about anything. He's the hard case that you can't be.

I'm sure your daughter has a busy schedule, but you should do everything to get her to a gym for a half hour a day, probably after school. It's just a half hour, and it will make a big difference if she keeps it up over time.

A child can't diet unless the parents take the lead. I ballooned to 205 lbs, and I had to get rid of all the chips, ice cream, sodas, and sweets in the house. I went on a strict low fat diet and lost the weight in about 9 months.

Shaquille O'Neal, who plays center, has or very recently had a television show on ABC about school-aged children losing weight and getting into shape. It's called Shaq's Big Challenge.

http://abc.go.com/primetime/shaqsbigchal...

I also like watching television shows like Fat March and Biggest Loser. I think those are the right names of the shows. But Shaq is a big star, and he does a real good job leading the children on the show. He's great with the kids, and he also deals with the teachers and parents.

I wish I was blessed with the size to playcollegesports. Your daughter doesn't know how lucky she is. Bubba Paris was an All-Pro offensive lineman for many years for the San Francisco 49er's. He has twin daughters who are big like him, and both play at the University of Oklahoma. One of them is an All-American. Akeem Olajuwan was very tall and a great center for the Houston Rockets, and his daughter enrolled there also. They have a Top 10 team with some great centers/ forwards. There is a picture of Courtney Paris on their website.

http://www.soonersports.com/sports/w-bas...

I don't know if this is the right recommendation for fallen aches, but I've heard that the Good Feet Store helps people feel a whole lot better in their shoes. They sell a complete line of arch supports made for different types of feet. I think most cities have one. You can check their website. At any rate, they are feet experts. As for myself, I use Dr Scholl's Messaging Gel Insoles. I broke my heel many years ago, and they soften my step tremendously.

http://www.goodfeetstore.com/

Good luck to your daughter. I hope she gets acollegescholarship. She can also continue her career at a communitycollegebecause colleges recruit from there also.
Yeah I play basketball as well, only i'm really short lol but i think you should confront the coach about her running and tell him to back off. She can improve at her own pace. Ok what may help her run better is using a high performance diet. Such as filingl her with more Carbohydrates and protien. This gives energy for her to use and store. I personally take Iron, and Calcium pills. Once a day. But start out with taking one every other day ,don't take both at the same time everyday if you are going to use them.

Also are you sure this is whats best for your daughter does she want to do this? Does she want to playcollegeball? Or is this what everyone assumes that she wants? Well I have also had a very bad coach that complained a lot. But to get her i shape you must start gradually, start with a mile a day then increase to 2 miles a day then 3 miles aday. Then for agilty and speed, ladders are great. Being a post player she should be able to rip those rebounds off, so put her on weights, There are also good sources of books out there such as "conditioning for basketball" they can teach you how and what to do in workouts to fit you. Well this guy sounds like a total a** but don't let him interfear with her playing even though he is the coach he should know when to stop saying something like that over and over agian cause it gets personal after awhile. But tell your daughter to keep up the good work , also encourage her whenever you can she gets so much critisism from the coach she could use encouragement. HAVE A GREAT SEASON THIS YEAR GREAT LUCK TO YOU!!!
stackers
iron... proteins.... vitiams B ,, B for basketball lol.. rellie thooo
Well I know in order to get faster is not easy. I play basketball too I want to get faster, also i am flat footed. So suggest that she eats healthy amount of carbohydrates like noddles. She should do vigorous work outs like stair running and suicides to increase her speed. Being flat foot sucks, you should probably get her arch supports for her shoes and continue going to the doctor. Vitamins i dont think that will help that much but take a multi vitamin everyday is probably the best.

So after doing this and when your daughter gets a scholarship you should stick it in front of the douce bags coach's face.
I'd be willing to help attempt to correct her flat-footedness. Email me at k.sordo@gmail.com, if you'd like help with it.

He played for LSU and the Hawks in the NBA he revolutionized the point guard position he could dribble and shoot like no one had ever seen he owned almost every record at the time he died after playing a game of one in his fifties he had a heart attack
He was perhaps the best shooter ever. He is easily the bestcollegeplayer in history. All-America First-Team, 1968, 1969, 1970

College Player of the Year, 1970

NBA All-Star, 1973, 1974, 1977-1979

NBA 50th Anniversary All-Time Team, 1996

Perhaps the greatest creative offensive talent in history, Peter Press Maravich rarely duplicated the same move twice. "Pistol Pete" dazzled the crowd with his Harlem Globetrotter-like dribbling, ability to toss a no-look pass with pinpoint accuracy, or make a fall-away jumper with two defenders draped on him. The court was his personal playground, every night was a show, and no one knew what scoring records he might shatter. In only three years playing for his father Press at LSU, Maravich scored 3,667 points, while averaging an incredible 44.2 ppg -- both NCAA records. Noted for his floppy gray socks and mop of brown hair, Pete set numerous other NCAA, SEC, and school records, and led the NCAA in scoring three times. As a pro, Maravich was a four-time NBA All-Star, and led the NBA league in scoring for the 1977 season, averaging 31.1 ppg for the New Orleans Jazz.

Peter "Pistol Pete" Maravich (June 22, 1947 鈥?January 5, 1988) was an American basketball player known for his dazzling ballhandling, incredible shooting abilities, and creative passing. He learned at a very young age fundamental basketball and ball handling drills from his father coach Press Maravich. He would follow his father and coach throughout the eastern and gulf seaboards as a young man before exploding onto the National Basketball Association (NBA) in his own right.

Also known as "Pistol Pete", he starred incollegeat Louisiana State University and for three NBA teams. Maravich is still the all-time leading NCAA scorer, averaging a staggering 44.2 points per game, without the benefit of a three-point line and excluding the records of his freshman year due to the fact that when Pete was in his first year of college, the NCAA had separate freshmen and varsity basketball teams and freshmen were not allowed to play on the varsity team. It was calculated by Dale Brown that Maravich would have averaged 57 points per game with the benefit of acollegethree-point line.

[edit] Early life

Maravich was born in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh. Maravich amazed his family and friends with his basketball abilities from an early age. His father Press Maravich, a former professional player turned coach, showed Pete the fundamentals starting when Pete was seven years old. Pete would obsessively spend hours practicing ball control tricks, passes, head fakes, and long range shots. The elder Maravich required his son to make 100 shots from the free throw line in their driveway every night after dinner before he would be allowed to go to bed. Maravich claimed he often made 99 straight before deliberately missing the next several shots just so he could continue playing ball outside. Maravich's father claims that at the age of 11 the younger Maravich once succeeded in making 500 consecutive free throws one evening after school, stopping only when it became too dark to see the rim, illuminated only by the elder Maravich's flashlight.

[edit] Basketball career

The Pistol attended Broughton High School leading the state of North Carolina in scoring.

[edit] College

When he took the court for his first freshman game at LSU, a large crowd turned out to see what all the fuss was about.

In those days, freshman players did not play with the varsity squad. So, after Maravich put up 50 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists on Southeastern Louisiana College,[1] the crowd got up and went home, ignoring the varsity game. And so it would go the rest of the season, as LSU's freshman squad lost only one game, while the varsity team won only three.

Noted for his mop of brown hair and floppy socks, Maravich scored more points incollegethan any other player in history. In only three years playing for his father Press Maravich at LSU, Maravich scored 3,667 points 鈥?1,138 points in 1968, 1,148 points in 1969 and 1,381 points in 1970 while averaging 43.8, 44.2 and 44.5 points per game. In the process, "Pistol Pete" set 11 NCAA and 34 Southeastern Conference records, as well as every LSU record in points scored, scoring average, field goals attempted and made, and free throws attempted and made, and assists. In his collegiate career, the 6' 5" (1.96 m) guard averaged an incredible 44.2 points per game in 83 contests and led the NCAA in scoring three times. He also set an NCAA record by scoring more than 50 points 28 times. He was named a three-time All-American and still holds many of these records, more than 35 years later. Notably, his 3,667 points don't factor in the 741 he scored his freshman year, or the fact that they played without a three-point line.

Maravich was a three time first team All-American and was named The Sporting News' player of the year in 1970, and received the USBWA College Player of the Year and Naismith Award as well. He scored a personal record of 69 points versus Alabama during a game that year, and garnered numerous other awards andcollegerecords.

Maravich shone on the court and LSU slowly turned around a lackluster program. The year before he arrived, the varsity posted a 3-20 record. In Pete's senior season, LSU was 20-8 and participated in the NIT, where they were defeated by Marquette 101-79 in the semi-finals. Maravich was also a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon while at LSU.

[edit] NBA

After graduating from LSU in 1970, Maravich was the third selection in the first round of that year's NBA player draft[2] and made league history when he signed a $1.6 million contract 鈥?one of the highest salaries at the time 鈥?with the Atlanta Hawks. He wasted little time becoming a prime time player by averaging 23.2 points per game his rookie season. After spending four seasons in Atlanta, Maravich was traded to the New Orleans Jazz for 8 players, where he peaked as an NBA showman and superstar. He made the All-NBA First Team in 1976 and 1977 and the All-NBA Second Team in 1973 and 1978. He led the NBA in scoring in 1976-1977 with 31.1 points per game. Prior to the 1979-80 season, Maravich moved with the team to Utah. He was waived by the Jazz on January 18, 1980 and was quickly picked up by the Boston Celtics where he played the rest of the season alongside Larry Bird.[3] Maravich retired in the fall of 1980.

In ten NBA seasons, Maravich, a five time NBA All-Star, scored 15,948 points in 658 games for a 24.2 points per game average (16th All Time). He led the league in scoring with 31.1 points per game in 1976-1977. His NBA single game high, a 68-point explosion while fouling out, came against the New York Knicks on February 25, 1977.

[edit] Later life and Death

After a leg injury forced him to leave basketball in the fall of 1980, Maravich became a recluse for two years. Through it all, Maravich said he was searching "for life." He tried the practices of yoga and Hinduism, read Trappist monk Thomas Merton's The Seven Storey Mountain, and took an interest in the field of ufology, the study of unidentified flying objects. He also explored vegetarianism and macrobiotics. In 1982, he became a Christian and began traveling the country sharing his new found faith in Jesus Christ.

A few years prior to his death, Maravich said, "I want to be remembered as a Christian, a person that serves Him to the utmost. Not as a basketball player."[4]

On January 5, 1988, while warming up to play a pickup basketball game with a group that included Focus on the Family head James Dobson, he collapsed and died of a heart attack at the age of only 40. An autopsy revealed the cause of death to be a rare congenital defect; he had been born with a missing left coronary artery, a vessel which supplies blood to the muscle fibers of the heart. His right coronary artery was grossly enlarged and had been compensating for the defect.[5]

"He'll be remembered always", former LSU head basketball coach Dale Brown said on hearing the news of Maravich's death. "When we see some tousled-haired kid with drooping socks standing on some semi-darkened court or in a yard after everyone else has gone home, he will be shooting a basketball, and we will remember Pete."

Years before his death, at the age of 25, Maravich told Pennsylvania reporter, Andy Nuzzo, "I don't want to play 10 years in the NBA and then die of a heart attack at 40."[6]

Pete Maravich is buried at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Mausoleum in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

[edit] Legacy

Maravich was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in May 1987. He is the youngest player ever to be inducted.

After Maravich's death, Louisiana Governor Buddy Roemer signed a proclamation officially renaming the LSU home court the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in 1988.

In 1991, a biographical film dramatizing his 8th grade season entitled, The Pistol: The Birth of a Legend, was released.[7]

In 1996, he was named one of the 50 greatest NBA players in history by a panel made up of NBA historians, former players, and coaches. He was the only deceased player on the list.

In 2001, a comprehensive 90-minute documentary film debuted on CBS entitled, Pistol Pete: The Life and Times of Pete Maravich.

In 2005, ESPNU named Maravich the greatestcollegebasketball player of all-time.

In 2007, two biographies of Maravich were released:

MARAVICH by Wayne Federman and Marshall Terrill, and

Pistol by Mark Kriegel

Pete is survived by his two sons Jaeson and Josh who both carry on the Maravich name in collegiate play.

Jaeson at William Carey College and Josh at Louisiana State University.

Why Jarvis???

Why is Mike Jarvis asking anything related tocollegebasketball? He destroyed the 5th winningest program in the history ofcollegebasketball, then refers to "his" run with SJU is nauseating. He is a hypocrite and a self promoter. The fact the Yahoo is hiring a man like that lowers the integrity of the website.

AMEN BROTHER! AMEN! I wrote the same thing (page 12 of this farce). He is a THIEF!! It was not his run, it was Fran Fraschilla's run, it was his players. I am also not a big fan of Mike Jarvis. He was pretty good at George Washington, and made one tournament with the Johnnies, but once they started losing he became more interested in covering his behind that working at getting them back on track. Look, he was a former coach and they all end up getting jobs doing stuff like this all the time. Would you rather see that train wreck Digger Phelps, whose only apprarent talent is matching a highlghter and a tie?
